Barn

Barns have Style

Barns are so wonderful to visit
All across the country where you look
We see them in the middle of fields
Beside a slow flowing brook

Some are standing all alone
The grass is parched and brown
You may see an occasional bird
But that is the only sound

Barns are home for little creatures
Quite large or very small
For I doubt if there is a barn
With no creature inside at all

For Cats and kittens of course
It's a safe place for them to stay
Many are wild little creatures
But so delightful to watch at play

Styles of barns are so different
For long ago the purpose was
To house the horse and keep hay dry
And that was the only cause

But as years went by they changed
For if you study them awhile
You learn they can be quite fancy
Yes, barns definitely have style!

Country Church

There's a place dear to me...and it's in my memory
It's a place where I spent my younger days
It was just as dear to me as my home could ever be
It was at the Country Church where we prayed

Every Sunday morning... you could find us there
With the cousins, aunts and uncles and our friends
Singing Rock of Ages, and Precious Memories
And we'd sing When the Saints go Marching In

When the choir was through...the tithes were then received
After this the preacher preached the holy word
He would tell us how to live the golden rule
And he'd tell us how to honor the dear Lord

Keep the ten commandments ...in our hearts each day
Never stray from what was truth and light
Sunday mornings at that old Country Church
Gave us strength to face the week and do what's right

Still today, that chuch stands...as a beacon on that hill
And I've gone back there to pray and praise the Lord
An important part of my childhood and my past
T'was there I learned to pray and read the holy word

Old Barn

Forgotten Barn

Somethings can be remembered
Somethings are put away
But somethings in my memory
Are put there to stay

Like the times on Grandpa's farm
When I was just a lad
I use to help him put the hay up
In the old barn, and now tis sad

For when I go to see it
The roof all rusted tin
The hinges coming off the doors
Where cow once had been

The door to the hayloft
Is missing from its track
But as I stand and look at it
It brings those memories back

That barn is not forgotten
It's an ancient sheltered friend
For every time I look at it
I'll remember where my heart has been

The Road

While driving on a cloudy morn, I came to a road I know
It was far out in the country and it took me way back home
It wound round the hills and trees, and it circled 'mong the fields
And it lead to many places where as a boy I use to roam

Oh, take me back in time, let me see the summer time
Feel the rain upon my brow, let me feel the winds blow now
Take me back in time, let me feel things one more time
Let me once more feel the love and peace right now

On the road there is the home where my mom and daddy lived
It was here they taught me hard work and rewards
If I did the things I should and they always knew I could
I would play a part in bringing in the harvest...my reward

Farther down this road there is, the barn where things are stored
Like the hay in the hayloft and the cows their shelter seek
Grandpa's tractor had its place in a corner by the gate
And I still recall the sights and smells of freshly gathered wheat.

Yes, this road remains the same, as it did when in my youth
That old barn is still a useful building, and the doors still creak
All the trees are standing taller, and the fields are greener green
But like I, this road is worn now, but it's memories still are sweet

Oh, take me back in time, let me see the summer time
Feel the rain upon my brow, let me feel the winds blow now
Take me back in time, let me feel things one more time
Let me once more feel the love and peace right now
